Brigham Young and the cost of winning
I saw a story today about a basketball hotshot playing for Brigham Young who is going to be suspended for violating the university's moral code. People are now all in a tizzy because they think the moral code is too strict and that BYU shouldve waited until after the championship. Well BOOHOO America! The student in question, as well as every other student at Brigham Young, SIGNED that moral code. It's a contract. He violated it. Nuff said. If he thought he couldn't follow the code, I'm sure there are many other fine schools he could have gone to. Also, if he's aiming to play in the NBA, he better learn REAL fast about what happens when you don't read fine print. Breach of contract will cost you more than getting kicked off the team in the real world kiddies. As to whether or not BYU has too strict a moral code...Are you serious? If there's anything America could use more of, it's morals. Now BYU is on the stricter side, but if you want to whoop it up like Paris Hilton or Charlie Sheen, WHY THE HELL would you choose to go to a religious school? Personally, I applaud BYU for encouraging its students to behave themselves, and reminding us all that there is more to college than frat parties and fornication. That's my personal choice. That troubled b-baller had a choice too, and he made the wrong one, so give BYU a break. Just a though...

Owners vs. Players: nobody wins
Ah, the NFL. Let me just start out by saying I like football, but I think paying people millions of dollars to play a game while teachers make what they make is ridiculous. That being said, are team owners on crack? Asking for an extra billion dollars on top of the billion dollars you already get is just retarded. They say it's to cover stadium construction costs, but I don't buy it. How about making sure the one you already have is in good shape instead of building new ones? Anyway, owners (while I'm sure their job is very hard) do not have to worry about sudden injuries ending their careers. Shut up and stop bitching that a billion dollars just isn't enough for you. I bet if we gave that same billion dollars to a single parent, they could figure out how to build a new stadium, pay players, and have enough left over to get all the fans a hot dog and a foam finger. Hey, players, you're not off the hook here though. Maybe if the owners didn't have to waste so much money catering to your Death Star sized egos, bailing you out of legal problems, and listen to your diva-like whining, they wouldn't be comlpaining about being broke. Let's make this clear: yes, you deserve the retirement plan and better rookie pay; no, you don't need any more bonuses. You make too damn much as it is. Lest we all forget, you're supposed to play because you love the game, not because you want a golden toilet and a french maid to wipe your spoiled ass. If you break the law, you should go to jail. You should make more than an average American, but not more than the President. Why doesn't someone inject a little reality into the lives of owners and players alike? Here's the skinny, in case any of you ever read this: You have it pretty good, guys. Now play ball. Just a thought....
Third time's the charm..how celebrity saves lives
I read today about a puppy that has survived two attempts to euthanize him. Don't worry about the little guy, there's now a long list of people waiting to adopt him, so in his case all's well that ends well. It got me thinking though. Why did he have to suffer through two attempted murders before he was deemed worthy? He's no different now than he was when he was first brought to the shelter, but somehow his newfound celebrity has rendered him adoptable. That's how it is in America, I guess. Think about the homeless man who was recently in the news because of his incredible singing. He has many problems to overcome, and I wish him the best of luck, but before the media got hold of him nobody gave three shits whether he lived or died. People passed him, ignored him, maybe treated him badly, but nobody thought of him as a man of worth until they were told to by the press. We have become a nation of sheep and idol worshippers. No one seems to have an idea of their own anymore. Seems like most people are waiting to be told what to wear, eat, care about....even the so called nonconformists like these emo people operate by a standard set of rules laid out by popular opinion of what they "should" be. Individuality seems to be a dying art. Everything seems to be done for shock value and stardom. Who can blame them though? After all, apparently it's enough to get your neck off the chopping block. Just a thought....

SPACE...please
Pet peeve alert! Why does the guy/gal behind me in line at the grocery store feel like they need to be an inch off my ass? You are not getting to the clerk any sooner that close than you would be three inches farther back. I think everyone in the world should get at least that much breathing room to call their own. Tailgating is illegal when you drive and at the very least it's extremely frigging annoying in person. Honestly, if I shift my purse and it hits you, you are WAY too close. Oh, and while I'm at it, why can't you ask for the grocery space bar thingee instead of reaching past me to get it? Rude! It's no wonder people's kids are so ignorant when their parents can't show even the most basic respect. When did we become such a nation of Grabby Gusses? God! Anyway, back to the space thing. If the supermarket was the jungle (and sometimes it sure feels like it), you could get your face bitten off for being as close as some people get. I've started keeping one foot way behind the other just so the butthead behind me can't push their cart any closer. Relax, asshole, you're still next. Just a thought....
Westboro and the Bible or lack thereof..
Ok, I get that we live in a country with many freedoms. But free speech shouldn't mean the right to be complete assholes at someone's funeral. I don't think the wacky folks at Westboro Baptist church have ever read the Bible. I could post many many verses from the Good Book that would prove it, but it comes down to this. Christianity in general is all about how everyone has sinned, but we can all be forgiven. HELLO DORKS IT SAYS EVERYONE!!!!! Nowhere in the Bible does it say "God hates faggots." It doesn't say "Hate everyone you think is unholy." In fact, if you believe what the Bible says, which I do, it says "judge not, lest you be judged." Well the WBC, as I will call them to save space, has been doing a WHOLE LOT of judging. They are hateful and underinformed. Oh wait, this is my blog I can say what I want. They are COMPLETE DICKS!! I hope, as the Bible says, that someone goes to their funerals and shits on their graves. I'm not a warmonger or anything, but soldiers are doing their civic duty, which is more than I can say for the WBC. In fact, what DO thoses assholes do besides shit all over everyone? Hard to sell Christianity as a good thing when those are the most vocal spokespeople. I will never turn my back on God, ever, but I do have a really hard time with some of his creatures. There's something in the Bible too about people who flaunt themselves in public like that being hypocrites. Unfortunately, the love of God and his forgiveness extends even to WBC. And OJ Simpson. And Jack The Ripper....etc, you get my point. ANYONE can be forgiven. But in order to recieve that forgiveness, you have to REALLY mean that appology, and try not to sin again. So I probably won't have to bump into many WBC people in Heaven. Eh, I'm no religious expert, but I think saying hateful things to a dead man's father at the funeral isn't gonna get you any closer to the pearly gates. Just a thought....
